Simple Summer Fun

Can you believe it’s August already?  Whatever the calendar may say to the contrary, June and July are definitely the speediest months of the year.

August makes you want to slam the brakes on summer, to pack in as much fun as possible in the remaining weeks of vacation.

In order to help you enjoy the final days of summer with your little ones, here’s a simple, tried-and-true outdoor activity we call “Paint the Sidewalk.”

All you need is:

  • a bucket filled with water
  • a paintbrush

Simply give your little ones a bucket with water and a paintbrush.  Then, instruct them to paint something.  It could be a sidewalk, your back porch, a fence, the driveway...the possibilities are endless.

For a little variation, you could have them draw a masterpiece in sidewalk chalk and then have them “paint” over it.

You will be amazed how long kiddos will be content to “paint” like this. While they paint, you may even find yourself able to devour a few chapters of that book you’ve been wanting to read this summer.
