There's nothing funny about poop when you're changing a particularly disgusting diaper. And yet, "poop" makes its way into so many of the funny stories we tell about our kids.
Mothering wee ones is messy...and frustrating...and tedious. When you're slugging through the demanding day-to-day routine of being Mommy, it's hard to find the joy in wiping down the same surfaces, re-folding the same clothes, repeating the same instructions, and disciplining the same behaviors over and over again.
And yet, when our kids are grown, these are the very years that we will look back on and laugh about. We will remember the funny things our kids said and did, and we will realize in retrospect how brief and wonderful their babyhood was.
It may not seem possible right now, but these long and hard days we put in as mommies are going to make us laugh in the future. Any mourning will be turned into joy, (Jeremiah 31:13).
